Simplified Online SSI Application Now Available as First Step in Larger Effort

Following up on an announcement earlier this year, the simplified online application is part of the agency’s overall commitment to improving access to our benefits and programs.

SSI provides monthly payments to adults and children with disabilities, as well as people 65 and older, who have little or no income and resources.

The rollout of the streamlined online application is the first phase of a multi-year effort to simplify the disability application process and improve access for those who may be eligible.

In the past, customers could apply online for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and select only the intent to file for SSI through SSA.gov. Now, we are expanding the online application to actually include a simplified, streamlined version of the initial SSI application.

Based on customer testing, we reduced the questions from 54 to as few as 12 depending on how an applicant responds. Where possible, some answers will be pre-filled based on previous responses.

The enhanced online application is accessible to adults who:
• Are 18-64 years and 10 months and applying for SSI and SSDI.
• Have never been married.
• Have never applied for SSI for themselves or a child.
• Are U.S. citizens or noncitizens (eligibility has not changed)

In the future, the agency plans to expand this streamlined application process to all applicants, in the office, via phone, and, later, online.

    Hi I am a rep / payee & care assist for my brother a major stroke surviver 4 yrs ago hospital discharged hospice’s approved (I’m hospice, care assist, entertainment etc) 45 days post stroke with these unresolved medical issues: non – verbal unable to communicate with people can’t speak, write, gesture bodily with any accuracy but poor accuracy, can’t make informed decisions.
    Severe speech apraxia dysphagia, Severe global aphasia receptive & expressive.
    Assistance dependant heavy,
    incontinent X2,
    24 7 supervision required

    At present time he’s been bed confined 1 1/2 yrs weakening frail and
    EXPENSIVE
    I
    Have 2 unresolved issues

    firstly the remaining SSI back pay the bulk of which won’t be released for another six months we can’t wait till then we need it immediately sooner than later. To appropriately resource my brother requires financing above and beyond what our income is and so will continue running out a week or two prior to payday. Running out of: incontinent supplies, hygiene products, nutritional supplements ensure etc, tide bleach outta,
    It’s gotten beyond frustrating it’s intolerable and
    not unreasonable for us to request his remaining SSI back pay released now.

    Secondly and I have had no spare time to pursue this other issue to any conclusion.
    It’s ridiculously insane it’s likely unbelievable if it weren’t something that’d already been documented.
    I couldn’t possibly disclose here now in this forum the gruesome details of misconducts endured that include incident’s of deception, wilful withholding of fact’s and time line’s in order to justify denial’s at initial and recon stage’s letter’s adjudicator’s authored out for explanations in two denial’s read: “an uncooperative claimant unwilling to provide medical evidence of an alleged disability”
    wilful concealment withholding of documents obtained but wilfully failing to disclose any information obtained furthermore failing to utilize documents obtained as a current clearly defining documentation for multiple matching grid rule’s which indicated the evidence of why the claimant would be unable to perform at any ! position for paid labor.

    Gross misconduct, misleading, deliberate falsification of the record of a claimant that was made too result in the claimant being denied disability benefits at the initial stage and at the recon appeal.

    Terroristic tactics many representatives along that argues 4 year timeframe were punishing some being mid evil beyond all else.

    The grinding gear of turn downs exalting numbing hopelessness like the sting from a scorpion was seemingly the only substance of continuity shared from one branch of the SSA process to the next yikes!

    So what is it that I’d be looking for to have happen in order to conclude in closure ? I’m not entirely sure about that it feels more likely that not anything would ever be addressed let alone resolved but
    I’d say it would be closer to resolving even concluding I could
    shove it all lock stock over
    an abyssinian cliff… for say one
    hundred billion dollars ?

    It was so simple, my initial phone call where I was asked a few questions an they set up a more in-depth phone interview that lasted about a half hour and I was noticed 3 days later I had been approved for the Old Age SSI I received a check a few days later for the period I first called til the end of December and it will now be direct deposit. My only complaint was that the check itself wasn’t direct deposit. Oh yeah there was no coffee and cookies ???☕️???
