We’re making changes to the way you access Social Security’s online services, including your personal my Social Security account. The changes will simplify your sign-in experience and align with federal authentication standards. At the same time, we’re continuing to provide safe and secure access to our online services.

If you created your my Social Security account before September 18, 2021, you will still be able to use your username and password to sign in. However, you will not be able to do so for much longer.

In the near future, all users will need to have an account with one of our two Credential Service Providers (CSP) – Login.gov or ID.me – to access your personal my Social Security account and other online services.

To learn more, read our press release. If you have an existing Login.gov or ID.me account, you do NOT need to create a new one. And, if you can access your personal my Social Security account through Login.gov or ID.me, you don’t need to take any action.

If you don’t have a Login.gov account

To avoid any disruptions in accessing Social Security’s online services you may want to transition your account now by signing in with your Social Security username. Our online instructions will guide you through the process of creating a new account with Login.gov. Once you successfully link your personal my Social Security account with your new Login.gov account, you’ll get a confirmation screen and have immediate access to our online services. In the future, you’ll sign in to your account with Login.gov and not your Social Security username.

Login.gov offers 24/7 customer phone and chat support to answer your questions.

We encourage you to make the transition to Login.gov or ID.me now before the username option goes away later this year.

You’ll find more helpful information here.

Please share these important upcoming changes with your family members, friends, and colleagues.

We cannot get the blog to set up ID.me or Login.gov as my spouse is disabled and the system would not take a picture of her I.D. This process is very frustrating and we would like to request some alternate form of changing her sign in or otherwise. We have power of attorney

What I would like to know why it takes so long for somebody to answer the phone I called today July 30th 6:00 was told it would be 30 minutes I’m like okay cool I waited an hour and 11 minutes which nobody answered the phone cuz they close at 7:00 the letters that they send don’t make any sensey’all say that I owe but at the end of the letter it says I owe 0 0 0 when I didn’t get my social security on this 17th of this month I called that day and the guy told me he was going to reinstate it well guess what that didn’t happen now my rent is due and I don’t know what I’m going to do to pay it and I have no food in my house

The new system requires that the user be logged in through a particular browser version. I have an iMac, and the browser can be updated only through an update of the operating system. When I look at the Software Update in Settings, it informs me that I have the latest version of iOS.

It is impossible, at the moment, for me to comply with the SSA’s login requirements. I can’t go to an SSA office because I live in a foreign country.

What I want to know is this: How can the SSA’s IT people not know about this situation? Why are they going ahead with the change when they MUST KNOW that an unknown number of people can’t comply?

This is how class-action lawsuits start. The SSA must either modify their system to allow older browsers or continue to allow use of the old system until Apple deploys a new version of iOS.

I have a login account and password set up through Login.gov. It keeps asking me if I received an authorization code – I’ve received nothing. It just keeps going in circles. Login is not working.

Useless. Keeps going around in circles. Useless.

I need an representative to contact me regarding under payment. I started receiving payments in October 2018. I was guaranteed to receive back payment for SSDI AND SSI. I did get the back payment for SSDI but not SSI. Can someone please explain this to me.

I thought maybe I was a loner in thinking this change in accessing my information for Social Security was a waste of time and money, absorbed by taxpayers. After receiving an email From SSA, which I thought might be a hoax, I checked the website and found that we are now transitioning to another sign in method Of accessing information, when the current one works just fine. Reading the blog post, it’s obvious the vast majority have had issues and or are dissatisfied with this new method of signing in for information. Please reconsider, pushing this change upon the American people.

I Agree 100% With Joel Gerber. The Current Sign In Method Works Fine. Why Do You Have To Make It Complicated With ID.me

I’ve had no issues a few days ago until today. After putting in username and password I’m told a code is sent to my phone (SMS) which will expire after 10 minutes but I don’t receive the code until after it expires. I charged my phone and also restarted it and even turned the phone off but with no luck. I’ve tried several times but not receiving code in a timely manner.

Great experience with an SSA staff member from the Help Desk. Called simply looking for some assistance with what to bring to a local field office and wound up getting everything resolved online with her assistance.
